Wheel Chairs
Wheelchairs Buying a wheelchair is an important decision, and there are many factors to consider when selecting a manual wheelchair. The first thing to decide is if you want a wheelchair that you can push on your own (a standard wheelchair) or one that someone else will push for you (a transport wheelchair). You can tell the difference between these types of wheelchairs based on the style of the wheels: a standard wheelchair will have large wheels in the back with small casters in the front and a transport wheelchair will have casters for all four wheels (this type of wheelchair will look the same as a medical wheelchair that you'd find in a hospital).
If you decide to go with a standard wheelchair, you will still have the option available of having someone else push it for you when it is convenient for you. For this reason, it offers great flexibility for those who are able and want the freedom of getting around on their own, while knowing that they can have someone push the wheelchair for them when the occasion requires.
Another factor to consider is the weight of the chair. A standard wheelchair can hold up to 250 pounds, while a heavy duty wheelchair can hold up to 600 pounds. Most people prefer lightweight wheelchairs (sometimes referred to as "wheelchair lightweight") because they are easier to pick up and transport. Portable wheelchair/folding wheelchairs are also popular choices.
